Under construction...

Please excuse this blog being a mess while I try and learn how to change it up a little. Thanks!

Book Review

I have fallen a little off the bandwagon with my "two books a month" New Year's Resolution.

I think I made it to June (and in my book that's pretty good)

I'm trying to get back on track, since all schedules and goals flew out the window of Summer.

In July for book club we read The Help by: Kathryn Stockett

I know this book is pretty popular right now especially since the movie just came out. So, here is the truth, it is a LOOONG book, like over 400 pages.

Normally I wouldn't even try and conquer such a lengthy read but I try extra hard for book club.

This book was really hard for me to get into, the first fifty pages or so were kinda slow. BUT, just keep reading because it does get better. By the time I was a fourth a way through I couln't put it down.

It is set in the heart of the civil rights movement. The story is told from the point of view of Skeeter, the main character, and follows her on her journey to fight the standards of the world she lives in. She was raised by a black maid who she loved dearly and yet she feels compelled to tell the story of "the help" in an effort to expose the truth.

The book had it all. Characters you love, characters you hate.

A love story.

A torrid mother/ daughter relationship.

It chronicles the journey of a girls discovery that her childhood friends and her no longer share things in common and the dissolution of their friendship.

Civil rights drama.

This book kept me wanting more and when it was over it left me wanting more.

It is a MUST READ!!!

First day...not so great

After waiting for Keddie's bus to bring him home for what seemed like FOREVER (we waited 45 minutes in 100+ heat)

He said he had a good day and was all smiles.

But then as we start walking to our house he tells me that

he got punched in the stomach, threw up and had to go the the dentist (nurse).

WHAT?!?!?!?!

He was surely kidding, right?

NOPE.

I was speechless, you should have seen the look of what the ****

that was surely on my face.

I immediately thought, why didn't I get a call from the school.

And I am still wondering why that has not happened...

But, the most important thing ( i guess) is that he was more concerned with playing with his friends than talking to me about it so hopefully there are no permanent "school sucks because it's where you get punched in the stomach" scars...

Here's hoping day two is better...

Keddie's in Kindergarten

We are officially in Kindergarten!!

After much anticipation, the day is finally here.

Last night I think he was getting a little nervous, he kept saying his stomach hurt.

But this morning he was fine and excited to go.

Keddie with his friend Bennett, he lives on the street with us and is in the class right across the hall from Keddie's so we all went together this morning.

He was right at home in his class, just went and sat down like it today was not a huge deal or anything (little did he know this momma was freaking out inside).

I'm not sure why he refuses to actually look at the camera but at least he's smiling.

And I am happy to report that I made it through with no tears.

Now I can't make any promises about tomorrow as I put him on the bus for the first time (yikes!), I'll at least wait until the bus pulls away...

Happy back to school everyone!

Changes and Random

I know I have been MIA forever, like over a month. We have been enjoying the last bits of summer before our world gets turned upside down. Today is Keddie's last day of daycare (woohoo for more $$ in my pocket), but that also means that he starts Kindergarden on Monday.

He is SOOOO excited that he can hardly stand it. I on the other hand am having some out of nowhere anxiety about it. I actually started crying this morning when I dropped him off for his LAST day. I am a bit of an emotional wreck...

So this weekend will be spent getting ready for the first week of school and hopefully preparing us for a new routine. Oh and tomorrow night is Meet the Teacher (fingers crossed that we get a fantastic one). Lots of changes coming our way.

So here is the random...I saw these super cute Sperry's the other day in the girls' section at Dillards and I want them. They are NOT really my style at all, but for some reason I am drawn to them and am now on the hunt for them in my size. Wish me luck!

I also would like to make a confession. I have a small (okay large) problem. I can't resist an fantastic basket. And these are gorgeous...

I saw them in my Sept issue of Better Homes and Garden and had to find them. find them here http://cspost.com. I am in Love and they will find a home at my home. Just trying to narrow down color and the room that they will look amazing in.

Off to enjoy the last weekend of summer while trying not to blubber like a baby at meet the teacher.
